Facts About Water

  • Water is one of the most important substances on earth, if not THE most important, by any measure. All lives, including plants and animals, must have water to survive. If there were no water, there would be no life on earth. Chemically, pure water is composed of only two substances — hydrogen and oxygen – two volumes of hydrogen combine with one volume of oxygen (H2O).

  • Water makes up almost 75% of the human body and is absolutely necessary for life. You may already know that you should drink 8 to 10 glasses of this life-sustaining liquid per day, but you must also give serious thought to the quality of the water you put into your body.

  • Bottled water sold over the counters, is mostly cleaned-up city water which may serve some good, but they are not always as pure as you might expect them to be.

Gradient

Except for a handful of places in some parts of the world that are still lacking in clean water, we are fortunate to have several different options for our water supply in this modern world. The question is whether these options actually offer water that is good enough for human consumption.

Tap Water

Tap water is municipal water that comes out of the faucets. Before reaching you, such water has been treated, processed and disinfected; usually purified with chlorine and generally has added fluoride which will affect our well-being.

Distilled Water

Distilled water, which can be any kind of water that has been vaporized and collected. The water is then safe to drink, but the disadvantage to drinking this water is that essential minerals (e.g., calcium and magnesium), in the water would no longer exist. So again, distilled water is just clean water but has no essential minerals in it.

Reverse Osmosis

Reverse osmosis water is water forced through membranes to remove larger particles, pollutants and minerals. World Health Organization has Issued a Reverse Osmosis Water Warning — Just about everyone knows that Reverse Osmosis (RO) systems excel at removing water impurities, but few is aware that they also remove the beneficial minerals. In fact, the reverse osmosis process removes 92-99% of beneficial calcium and magnesium.

Deionized Water

DI water, DIW or de-ionized water, often synonymous with demineralized water / DM water, is water that has had almost all of its mineral ions, Cations such as sodium, calcium, iron and copper & Anions such as chloride and sulfate removed. Above that, deionized water ionized impurities and minerals but not bacteria or pathogens.

All of the above water supply options lack the essential minerals that are necessary for maintaining health. Mineral deficiency can lead to many health complications including diabetes, migraines, high blood pressure, constipation and even heart irregularities, just to name a few. The evidence is strong that calcium and magnesium are essential elements for the human body.

“The safety and accessibility of drinking-water are major concerns throughout the world. Health risks may arise from consumption of water contaminated with infectious agents, toxic chemicals, and radiological hazards. Improving access to safe drinking-water can result in tangible improvements to health.”
– World Health Organisation

Tap Water

The World Health Organization (WHO) has clarified that the majority of healthy minerals needed for human body is from food or dietary supplementary sources and not from drinking tap water. In addition to that, certain elements found in the water can also be harmful to human health.

Tap water presents a variety of inorganic minerals which the human body has difficulty in absorbing. Their presence is suspected to have caused a wide array of degenerative diseases.
